Macrolophus pygmaeus is a polyphagous bug with a wide range of food source, which under certain conditions, can maintain its population, feeding on pollen and plant sap. In their feeding activity, adults and nymphs of Macrolophus pygmaeus prefer eggs and larvae of whiteflies, although they also control Tuta absoluta and thrips, and in the absence of target pests they can feed on aphids, spider mites and eggs of some lepidoptera species.
Unlike adults, nymphs do not fly and act more locally, due to which they can be used in pest foci. It is noteworthy that at low humidity and high temperature, the bug feeds on plant sap, but this does not harm the culture. The use of top dressing leads to the maintenance of the population of this predator and contributes to its spread throughout the culture.
