Habrobracon hebetor is a small parasitic wasp from the Hymenoptera order. Adults have a color from black to red-brown and reach a length of 1.5-3 mm, with females being larger than males. Habrobracon hebetor lay eggs in the larval stage of many Lepidoptera pests, especially in a number of cutworms, moths and leafworms. Adult females live 23 days, during which they manage to lay up to 100-150 eggs.
The wasp paralyzes the victim by piercing its integuments with the ovipositor and injecting the toxin, after which it lays from one to eight eggs on the surface of the caterpillar's body. The number of paralyzed caterpillars often exceeds the number of infected ones. The duration of development of one generation of the parasite ranges from 9 to 25 days, depending on the temperature. The application of Habrobracon hebetor after the application of Trichogramma significantly improves the quality of pest control.
