Amblyseius californicus (Neoseiulus californicus) is a polyphagous mite from the phytoseiidae family that feeds on herbivorous mites, thrips larvae (first instar) and other small pests, and in the absence of prey it can feed on plant pollen.
The entomophage has a pale orange color (the color also depends on the diet) and reaches a length of about 0.5 mm, while females are larger than males. As a polyphagous species, it can survive in pollen-rich crops such as peppers until prey is available. Adults prefer eggs and larvae, and are also prone to cannibalism - females can eat laid eggs. Amblyseius californicus is active over a wide range of temperatures and tolerates low air humidity. They don't go into diapause. Life expectancy is about 3 weeks.
