Bombus PRO5

The Bombus PRO5 hive contains 60-80 bumblebee workers (Bombus terrestris). Bumblebees are widely used as natural pollinators of various crops in protected and open ground.

PURPOSE AND APPLICATION
Purpose:

Ensuring natural pollination of agricultural crops.

Cultures:

Earth bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) are used for natural pollination of vegetable crops in protected and open ground (tomato, cucumber, pepper, eggplant, zucchini, etc.), orchards (plum, cherry, etc.) and berries (strawberries, currants, gooseberries, etc. .).

Application:

The number of hives required for high-quality pollination depends on the culture and conditions of use, therefore, in each individual case, it is selected individually. In orchards and berry fields, 6-12 hives per hectare per month are used. Blueberries will need up to 15 hives per hectare.

Bumblebee hives must be placed evenly over the entire area, no more than 3 pieces in one place, while their entrances should look in different directions, but not directly at the culture. It is better to place the hives on an elevation, without tilting (horizontally), protecting them from direct sunlight and condensation (rain moisture). It is important to protect the hives from ants, which can be attracted by the syrup necessary for the nutrition and development of the bumblebee family. In the case of using beehives in open ground, they must be fixed on a plane so that they do not turn over due to gusts of wind.

Bumblebees actively work at an air temperature of 10-28 °C. At higher temperatures, the activity of bumblebees decreases, and at 32 ° C they stop working, engaged in lowering the temperature of the hive.

DETAIL INFORMATION

Manufacturer: ECOCULTURE RPE

Earth bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) are widely used in agriculture as natural pollinators and show much higher results in this than honey bees and osmium bees. Bombus PRO5 bumblebee hives are designed for pollination of many vegetable, melon, horticultural and berry crops in protected and open ground.

Benefits of pollination by bumblebees:

  • Compared to bees, the earth bumblebee is a more active pollinator, especially in cloudy weather and at low temperatures;
    The bumblebee begins to pollinate the crop when the temperature rises above 8 °C;
  • Even a strong wind will not stop the bumblebee in his work;
  • Bumblebees navigate in greenhouses and tunnel-type greenhouses better than bees;
  • Due to their size and focus on collecting pollen (rather than nectar, as is the case with bees), bumblebees carry more pollen per flight than other natural pollinators;
  • Due to the special vibration created by the bumblebee, it better shakes out the pollen from the flower;
  • For tomatoes and some other crops, the bumblebee is the only natural pollinator;
  • Unlike bees, bumblebees do not tend to fly far from the hive with the whole swarm to a more attractive culture, that is, they work exactly where the hives are;
  • They do not show high selectivity in the choice of colors.
